It's dinnertime at Fort Mandan. We pulled out the Dutch Oven and threw in some tuber roots that the Mandan Tribe from across the river gave us. This was a night to celebrate because Sacagawea gave birth to a son. His name is Jean Baptiste but we'll call him Pomp. Even George Drouilliard stopped charting maps to celebrate. It was truly a magical evening.

The weather is frigid here at Fort Mandan. We were able to use the dutchoven to make hominy and bacon tonight. It warmed my insides. I hope that we can have more meat tomorrow.
